Jojoba Oil Skin Sealer

Technically jojoba oil is not an oil but a wax ester. The difference is that an oil consists of triglycerin, which is composed of glycerin and 3 types of fatty acids. Wax esters, on the other hand, consist of fatty acid and fatty alcohol, and in nature they have the purpose of protecting the surface of the leaves on certain plants. The oil in human skin (sebum) consists of 25-30% wax esters and has – just as in nature – the purpose of protecting the skin’s surface from external factors. In this way, jojoba oil is very similar to the skin’s own natural sebum, and they mix very well with each other. So, jojoba oil works by contributing to sebum’s finest functions: to form a thin, non-greasy, protective layer on the skin’s surface, while also being able to be absorbed into the skin’s pores, where it softens the skin. This jojoba oil is mixed with sunflower oil, which with its composition of 50-74% linoleic acid (omega-6) and 14-35% oleic acid (omega-9), gives the product a light and less greasy feeling on the skin.
