Hemp seed oil has a unique composition of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which make up 70-90% of the oil. Linoleic acid/omega-6 makes up 50-70% and is thus the primary fatty acid in hemp seed oil, followed by linolenic acid/omega-3. The two fatty acids together have a ratio of approx. 3:1, which is believed to be an ideal composition. Hemp seed oil is an effective emollient that also contributes to strengthening the skin’s barrier function. The oil also contains beneficial phospholipids, plant sterols and amino acids (especially the amino acid arginine), and is a rich source of antioxidant vitamin E. This oil is mixed with sunflower oil, which with its composition of 50-74% linoleic acid (omega-6) and 14-35% oleic acid (omega-9), gives the product a light and less greasy feeling on the skin.
